Jill Nye-McKeown: We’d like to welcome Jill back as club manager for 2016. During the winter month, Jill is a health education teacher at Edmunds Middle School and is very active in the community as well as an avid triathlete, biker, hiker and kayaker. Jill is also a mother of two BTC swimmers/tennis players. We look forward to another successful summer season with Jill at the helm.
Meet the Tennis Pros
Errol Nattrass: Errol was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa where he grew his love for the game of tennis. He has lived in VT for the last sixteen years working as The Director of Tennis at Windridge Tennis & Sports Camps and more recently, Director of Tennis & Resort Programs at The Bridges Resort in Warren, VT. Errol is a graduate of The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Finance and Marketing. When Errol has had time to compete in the New England Men’s Open circuit he has consistently ranked in the top 10 with his best year-end ranking of #3 in 2007. He has many titles in different states including the Connecticut Open, South Shore Open in MA, RFC Championships in ME, and Vermont Tournament of Champions, to name a few.
Errol has a PTR Professional Tennis Teaching Qualification for U10, 11-17, as well as Adult tennis. In 2012 Errol received the USTA New England PTR Pro of the Year award. He has worked with beginner level players right up to nationally ranked players from the US and all over the world. Errol currently serves on the USTA VT board to help promote and grow the game of tennis in our state.
David Hildebrand: BTC 2015 Club Champion, David Hildebrand, will be serving as Junior Tennis Director. David brings great experience teaching all ages including young beginners, middle school, high school, and adults. David has worked at The Sports and Fitness Edge where he was responsible for running clinics, junior programming, and private lessons. Since 2015, David has been the Varsity Head Coach at Rice Memorial High School. At Rice, David runs all team activities including practices, matches, and fundraising. David is NHFS certified as a high school coach in Vermont including coaching fundamentals, first aid training, and CPR/AED training.
David also brings a huge heart and passion to the game. He regularly volunteers with the King Street Youth Center and Kids-on-the-Ball (KOTB) tennis programs for at risk teens and integrating immigrants. David is part of the KOTB Cuba Exchange Program responsible for renovating tennis courts at the Cuban National Tennis Center in Havana. During his time in Cuba, David also worked with the junior players in the Cuban National Academy. David has a USTA rating of 4.5 and is currently sponsored by Wilson.
Britt Lippard: Britt grew up in Raleigh, NC, playing first at Seven Oaks Swim & Racquet Club and then later training at Raleigh Racquet Club where she competed in local, state, and regional tournaments. After taking a hiatus from tennis from age 18 to 24, Britt started playing again in 2010 and developed a new love for the game and the community that tennis builds and supports.
In 2013, Britt found her calling when she began teaching both juniors and adults in Asheville, NC at Aston Park Tennis Center. Now a PTR Certified Tennis Professional living in Burlington, Britt teaches at The Edge as well as Topnotch Resort and coaches the Burlington High School Girls Tennis Team. She enjoys sharing the game of tennis in private, semi‐private, clinic, camp, and team settings. Her goal is to help players of all ages and abilities develop strokes, footwork, confidence, and joy that brings benefits to the court and beyond.
Some accomplishments in Britt’s tennis career include playing #1 high school singles and doubles from 2000‐2004. In 2014, she played for a NTRP Women’s 4.0 team in #1 singles and doubles and was ranked #17 in the Singles Southern Division. Most of all, Britt finds that the biggest rewards come from sharing the game with others and continuing her own education.
Trent Newman: Trent comes to BTC as the 2016 club champion. He holds two Vermont State Boys Championship titles and is currently ranked #1 in Vermont, 17th in New England and 384th Nationally. He holds an undefeated South Burlington (SB) high school record of 55-0 and has been on the high honor roll every semester since entering SB. Trent brings skills, enthusiasm, and a humbleness that few have acquired at such a young age. In addition to his zeal for tennis and helping others thrive on and off the courts, Trent is fun loving and passionate about giving back. He spent two Christmas vacations building churches and schools for the poor in Jamaica, volunteered his time to teach tennis and read to disadvantaged kids and frequently supports cancer fundraisers. Trent will attend Stonehill College in the fall where he received a tennis and academic scholarship. He looks forward to sharing his expertise and motivating everyone to take their game to the next level.
Ben Bosco: Ben hails from Glastonbury CT. He is attending the University of Connecticut where he is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting. Ben played 4 years of high school tennis at East Catholic where he was a 3-time all conference player and made the All-Courant singles team his senior year. Ben was selected captain as a senior and won two state championships with his team in 4 seasons. Ben is currently the Treasurer for the UConn Club tennis team. He has taught tennis the last 3 summers at a club in Connecticut but is excited to spend this summer at BTC. Ben is an avid skier who has been skiing in Vermont his whole life. He love all types of rock music and goes to as many concerts as he can.
Meet the Swim Coaches
Marisa Mulligan Cardin has been involved with competitive swimming since early childhood. She was Captain of the St. Michael’s College Women’s Swim Team, earning a 3rd place finish at NEISDA Championships in her senior year. Marisa is currently a high school math teacher at Rice Memorial High School. She has a wealth of experience as a teacher and coach, with swim lessons and as a swim club manager. We are very excited that she is joining our community as our Head Coach!
Tom Buzzell: Tom has been involved in competitive swimming for over 3 decades. He was a varsity swimmer at the University of Pittsburgh in the mid 80’s, then went on to coach high school swimmers in Frederick Maryland. Tom has past experience as the men’s and women’s assistant coach at Middlebury College – where he coached several NCAA Div. III All-Americans. He has also been a guest coach at the University of Vermont Nike Swim Camp and has several seasons of summer league coaching. This is Tom’s 4rd season with Burlington Tennis Club and he looks forward to another great year of fast swimming.
